Mobile video editing has evolved tremendously, allowing creators to produce professional-level content right from their smartphones. After the overwhelming success and demand following my previous tutorials, it’s time to level up! This guide will walk you through Part 4 of the Mobile Video Editing Tutorial, where we explore 3D logo animation, pie chart animation, camera effects, timeline animation, moving head effects, and illusion-based motion backgrounds—all using the powerful Alight Motion app.

Why Alight Motion?
Unlike earlier tutorials where we used InShot, this time we’re diving into Alight Motion—a feature-rich app that brings After Effects-style editing capabilities to your mobile device. It’s ideal for creators who want to elevate their content without needing a computer.
Let’s explore how to create some amazing visual effects in Alight Motion.
🎥 Moving Head Animation
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Open Alight Motion and tap the + icon to create a new project.
- Choose 1080p resolution and 30fps frame rate, then tap Create Project.
- Import your character PNG by tapping the green + icon → Media, and select the image from your gallery.
- Position and scale the PNG on the screen. Use the Move & Transform tools for precise alignment. Align it to the center using the red guide line.
Adding the Bending Animation:
- Tap the back button, then go to Effects → Add Effect.
- In the Distortion/Warp section, search for “Bend” and apply it.
- Adjust the following settings:
- Angle: Controls how much the image bends.
- Origin: Fix the part of the image that stays static (choose Bottom to keep the body fixed).
- Set keyframes at the beginning and end of the timeline:
- Start: +6.5 degrees
- End: -6.5 degrees
- Open Curve Editor → choose a Cyclic preset for a smooth back-and-forth motion.
- Adjust Start property (e.g., to 40) to limit movement only to the head.
To extend animation:
- Copy the layer and paste it repeatedly on the timeline.
- Select all layers and group them for easier handling.
📊 Timeline Scroll Animation
This effect is perfect for showcasing progress over years or events.
How to Do It:
- Tap + icon → Text and type the years (e.g., 2020 to 2030), each on a new line.
- Center-align the text, choose a readable font and color (e.g., blue).
- Stretch the layer duration and go to Move & Transform.
- Set a keyframe at the start (align 2020 to center).
- Move 2–3 seconds ahead and shift the text so 2030 aligns at the center.
- Create a mask:
- Add a rectangle shape.
- Position it over the text.
- Apply Gaussian Blur for a soft reveal.
- Select both layers → tap Mask to group them.
- Use Curve Editor → choose a slow-in, slow-out curve for a natural scroll effect.
📈 Pie Chart Animation
Use this to represent data visually in your videos.
How to Build It:
- Tap + → Pie Shape, adjust its size to your liking.
- Go to Edit Shape, change Start and End values to form slices.
- Duplicate the shape for multiple slices:
- Change color for each in Color & Fill.
- Adjust start and end angles for proper segmentation.
Adding Values:
- Tap + → Text and input values like “25%”, “35%”, etc.
- Adjust font, size, color, and add shadows for emphasis.
- Duplicate text layers and update their values accordingly.
Animate the Reveal:
- Add a new Pie Shape over the full chart as a cover.
- Adjust Start Value to cover everything and set the first keyframe.
- Move forward on the timeline and change Start Value to slowly reveal slices.
- Use Curve Editor for a smooth animation.
- Extend duration and repeat the process for each slice to create a clean, timed reveal.
Final Thoughts
With just your smartphone and Alight Motion, you can create incredible animations that rival professional desktop software. Whether you’re building social media content, YouTube intros, or infographics, these techniques will help your work stand out.
Take your time with each effect, experiment with curves and durations, and most importantly—have fun learning.
