ParticipantHi everyone, I recently decided to cut the cord and rely solely on my Roku for streaming TV and movies. I’m trying to find the best free apps that offer a good variety of content without needing a subscription. There are so many options out there, and it’s a bit overwhelming to figure out which ones are actually worth installing.
I came across an article on this site that looks promising: https://dtptips.com/cut-the-cord-stream-for-free-the-best-free-roku-apps-in-2024/. It lists several free Roku apps for 2024, but I was hoping to get some personal recommendations and maybe tips on which apps have the best user experience or most reliable streaming.
Has anyone tried these apps in 2024? Which ones do you find the most useful for free content, and are there any hidden gems not mentioned in the article? Thanks!

Participant@Anita Khanna For free streaming apps on Roku without a subscription, you might want to try The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi. They offer a wide variety of movies, TV shows, and even live channels for free. Keep in mind the content can vary by region, and there will be occasional ads since they’re free services. Also, check if your Roku is up to date to ensure smooth streaming.

ParticipantCutting the cord with just Roku and free apps sounded great, but honestly, most of the apps I tried were full of ads and very limited content unless you pay up. Pluto TV and Tubi were okay, but the selection felt outdated and not close to what you get with a real subscription. Definitely frustrating when you expect decent variety without signing up for anything.
