Hey everyone, I’ve been having a rough time getting my PC gaming experience to run smoothly lately. My setup is a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RTX 2060 and 16GB RAM. Most games used to run fine, but recently I keep getting annoying FPS drops, especially in titles like Apex Legends and Cyberpunk 2077. It feels random—sometimes it’s totally fine, other times my FPS tanks to under 30 for no apparent reason. I’ve tried updating my GPU drivers and checking for background processes, but it hasn’t helped much.

On top of that, my Xbox Series controller often lags or disconnects mid-game. It’s connected via Bluetooth, and I haven’t changed any settings. I’ve tried re-pairing the controller and even swapping USB ports when wired, but the lag persists in games like Dark Souls 3. It’s frustrating because keyboard and mouse feel awkward for some of these titles.

Lastly, I’m running into issues installing a few new games from Steam and Epic. Sometimes the installer just hangs or crashes. For example, Cyberpunk 2077 stalled at 45% installation yesterday multiple times despite restarting. My disk space is sufficient, and my internet connection is stable, so I’m really at a loss.

Has anyone experienced similar problems or have tips on fixing FPS drops, controller lag, or game install errors? I’m hoping to avoid a full system reinstall if possible. Appreciate any guidance!

I had a somewhat similar experience a while back with FPS drops and controller issues on a Ryzen setup. For me, the FPS drops ended up being related to Windows power settings and CPU throttling. I switched my power plan to “High Performance” instead of Balanced or Power Saver, and made sure Ryzen’s chipset drivers were fully up to date. That alone helped stabilize my framerates quite a bit in games like Apex and Witcher 3.

As for the Xbox controller lag, I noticed Bluetooth can be pretty finicky with some builds. What helped me was using the official Xbox Wireless Adapter instead of Bluetooth, which pretty much eliminated input lag and disconnects. If that’s not an option, I’d recommend turning off any other Bluetooth devices nearby and making sure no USB 3.0 ports are too close to the Bluetooth antenna, as it can cause interference.

Regarding game installs stalling, I had an issue once where Steam’s download cache got corrupted. Clearing the download cache from Steam’s settings fixed the problem for me. Also, running Steam or Epic Games Launcher as administrator can sometimes prevent weird installer hangs. Hope some of this helps without the need to reinstall your whole system!

I had a similar Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 2060 setup, and my games started stuttering a lot recently. Tried updating drivers, tweaking power settings, even reinstalling Windows, but nothing helped. Eventually realized my CPU was overheating because the cooler wasn’t seated right, once I fixed that, performance improved noticeably. Maybe check your temps?
