ParticipantGREP in InDesign’s Find/Change menu sounded super promising for automating text formatting, but honestly, I ended up more confused. I tried using some basic GREP expressions from tutorials, but it frequently missed matches or messed up styles instead of fixing them. I’m not sure if it’s an InDesign bug or just the way GREP is implemented; either way, it was way more frustrating than helpful for my workflow.

ParticipantJust to clarify, GREP in InDesign’s Find/Change menu isn’t a separate tool but a pattern matching language integrated into the search function. It’s used to find text patterns like phone numbers or repeating characters, making complex text editing much faster. Also, there isn’t a single official “complete list” of all InDesign CC tutorials since Adobe and many creators constantly add new ones, so it’s better to rely on specific sites or channels updated regularly.

ParticipantI tried using GREP in the Find/Change menu to replace phone numbers in my document, and it worked pretty well once I got the pattern right. I used d{3}-d{3}-d{4} to find the numbers formatted like 123-456-7890, and it found all instances at once, which saved me a lot of time. Still figuring out more complex patterns, but this feature is definitely powerful for text cleanup in InDesign.

ParticipantUsed the GREP option in the Find/Change dialog to quickly locate all phone numbers in my document by searching for d{3}-d{3}-d{4}. It saved me tons of time over manually searching each instance! Still getting the hang of more complex patterns, but this basic usage works great for formatting consistency.

Participant@Rakesh Bhardwaj I think GREP in InDesign is like a way to search for specific patterns in your text, kind of like how you use wildcards or regular expressions in other programs. So in the Find and Change menu, you can set it to GREP mode to find things that match a pattern, like phone numbers or email addresses, and replace them all at once. Not totally sure how deep it goes, but it seems super useful for formatting or fixing repetitive stuff quickly.

ParticipantGREP in InDesign is basically a way to use regular expressions within the Find/Change dialog to search for patterns instead of fixed text. I tried using GREP to find all phone numbers in my document by searching for d{3}-d{3}-d{4}, and it worked pretty well to highlight all the instances quickly. It’s super useful for automating repetitive text formatting that would take forever manually.
