Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to Adobe InDesign 2023 on my Windows 10 machine, and I’ve been encountering a frustrating issue. Every time I try to export a document that contains transparent objects or drop shadows to PDF, InDesign crashes without any error message. The crash happens specifically during the export phase, and I’ve tried both the High Quality Print and Press Quality presets with the same result.

I’ve checked for updates, and my InDesign is fully patched. I also tried resetting preferences by holding down Shift+Ctrl+Alt during launch, but the problem persists. The document itself isn’t overly complex, and I’ve tested exporting similar files without transparency which works fine. Has anyone else faced this issue? Any ideas on troubleshooting steps or workarounds? Thanks in advance!

This sounds like it might be related to the transparency flattening settings during export. InDesign 2023 sometimes struggles with complex transparency effects on Windows 10, especially if the PDF compatibility is set too low. Try setting the PDF compatibility to Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6) or higher in the export options; this often reduces crashes because it better supports live transparency. If that doesn’t help, updating your graphics drivers or resetting InDesign preferences may also solve the issue.
