I’m working on a large vector illustration in Illustrator with dozens of layers, and it’s becoming a real headache trying to keep everything organized. I understand that naming layers clearly helps, but beyond that, what’s the best way to manage a complex layer structure? Should I be using sublayers or layer groups, and how can those be leveraged for easier editing?

Also, sometimes I get confused when selecting objects on crowded layers. Are there any Illustrator features or tips for isolating specific parts of my artwork without locking or hiding a bunch of layers manually? I want a workflow that saves time and reduces mistakes, especially when working with clients who ask for frequent revisions. Any advice would be appreciated!

Naming layers clearly definitely helps, but I tried grouping and color-coding layers and it honestly just made things messier for me. Once I had a bunch of nested groups and sublayers, it became even harder to find what I needed quickly. Illustrator’s layer panel doesn’t feel very intuitive for big projects, so I ended up just flattening some parts and working in chunks instead. Not ideal, but managing dozens of layers with complex names and groups didn’t speed anything up.
